The Llandudno Cup : Building on Success
The mixing of business with pleasure once again proved a winning combination on June 22nd 2017, when North Wales Golf Club hosted the Llandudno Cup 2017, organised by the Builders Merchants’ Golf
Society, which was inaugurated in 2008 by NWGC member Les Lawrence, Area Sales Manager of Hanson Cement, who also coordinates the event (no mean feat!), the Llandudno Cup has, to date, raised over
£17,000 for charity.
Blue sky, sea breeze , warm sunshine , and well kept greens, provided perfect ingredients for this year’s 4 visiting teams.

Margaret Wheater from Rochdale, playing for Hanson Cement was very enthusiastic about her experience.
“This golf course has everything- a great atmosphere, friendly staff and beautiful scenery”.
Also visually stunning, and contributing to the feel-good factor of the day were the Vado team in beguiling pink and white harlequin trousers, and, with impressive
attention to detail, jaunty matching caps. Team Manager Dean Pamphilon, who is U.K. Sales Director for Vado, echoed all other players in commending the good-natured and thoroughly enjoyable occasion,
when bosses, customers and employees come together for such worthy cause. Speaking just before the Awards Dinner, held in the club’s newly refurbished lounge bar, Dean was already making plans (both tactical and sartorial) for next year.
NWGC Secretary Phil Beard, expressed his delight that the Club had for the 10th consecutive year hosted this prestigious event, which he expected would raise in excess of £2,500 for St David’s
Hospice and Ysgol Gogarth.
“Many of the visiting players having stayed for 2 nights in Llandudno, have said that they intend to return with their families, and for NWGC to help generate this business as well as
providing the fund raising venue, is extremely satisfying. NWGC is committed to playing an active role in the community and this type of event really epitomises our aims.”
Amid the political turmoil and bleak news of recent weeks, it is good to be reminded of the existence of such camaraderie, care and generosity as embodied by the Llandudno Cup.
